Lp(a): the test you may need once
Largely inherited, and lifestyle barely moves it.
Lipoprotein(a) levels are largely inherited. Diet and exercise barely change them, which is why a single measurement in adulthood is usually enough. A European consensus statement advises at least one.
In UK Biobank, median levels were 31 nmol/L in South Asian participants and 19 in white participants. Risk per unit was similar across groups.
Ask your doctor what a result means for you. Treatments are moving quickly.
